Denise, you're so welcome. The statistics about bird strikes are shocking and sad. Much more can be done but it takes time and of course money.

OR6 is doing great, has been soaring which is another developmental milestone and is moving all around north campus. JS5 is also doing great but I don't see him as often as OR6 so much of my time is spent searching. Happily, the three juvies on south campus are doing really well.

I'll definitely keep everyone posted about JS6 and OR7.

I was astonished to read the number (a billion with a "b") of birds that die each year just in U.S. from man-made collisions. Wish there was more that humans can do to prevent/reduce such tragic numbers!

Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk JS6's final lab results showed no evidence of infection or abnormalities, but unfortunately her x-rays revealed a complex shoulder injury requiring intensive rehabilitation. She was transferred to the Finger Lakes Raptor Center, Inc. today and will continue to be monitored by the The Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital at Cornell University as her rehabilitation progresses. We are so fortunate to have this collaborative team of dedicated wildlife health care professionals caring for JS6 and we'll provide updates when available. Thus far, Juvie OR7's lab work has been normal but unfortunately his/her x-rays showed a fracture of the coracoid bone in the shoulder. OR7 will also require rehabilitation but he/she needs a bit more supportive care in The Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital at Cornell University before discharge. We'll provide updates when available.

When OR7 was found on the ground near Whitman School on July 6, I searched for evidence of a collision but didn't see anything that evening due to the low light. I returned the next day and saw an impact imprint on the second floor window which is most likely where OR7 sustained the injury. I've searched around where JS6 was found on June 29 but haven't been able to find evidence of an impact. That said, both of these juveniles' injuries are consistent with collisions which sadly occur all too often as it is estimated that up to a billion birds die every year in the United States alone from collisions with man-made objects. Sadly, P3, one of Cornell University's juvenile hawks died from a window collision this week. It's unclear if there was a reflection in that window or why it was struck but it's clearly a bird imprint. It is so very sad to see…take good care OR7 and heal well.

I really can't imagine that something like this happens very often. An entire campus that's aware that a certain species of bird lives and nests on its grounds, that puts up signs like these, and that gets involved when it comes to observing and rescuing these birds. @disqus_OyVCEP5K2x:disqus , this is entirely thanks to you. Hi Sylvia, I see what you meant. No, we actually had rain over the days before OR7's window strike and the juvies often drink and take baths from puddles on the rooftops or ground. I saw JS6 drinking from a rooftop puddle a day before I found her injured. Thanks for your encouragement. I hope to have updates soon and will post here and on Facebook.
